What is Measure C?

If you live in Fresno County, you have likely experienced an improvement funded by Measure C.

Measure C is a half-cent sales tax that was initially approved by Fresno County voters in 1986. Its purpose was to fund transportation projects within the County, which includes 15 cities. The measure established a tax dedicated to improving transportation infrastructure.

This includes:

  • Road maintenance
  • Public transit
  • Bicycle lanes
  • Technology investments
  • Other transportation-related projects and programs

Upcoming Events

An urban intersection is pictured from above, with bright green bike lanes and crosswalks clearly marked for safety. The road is smooth.

To date, Measure C alone has raised over $2 billion locally. It combined those dollars with state and federal funds to invest over $8 billion into a County-wide transportation system. This means that tax funds were used as required match money for state and federal grants to complete more projects.

These projects help deliver:

  • Safer, smoother streets
  • More frequent and affordable transit services
  • Discounted rideshare for seniors and commuters
  • Reduced congestion
  • Improved air quality
  • and much more

How is Measure C Connected to the Fresno County Transportation Authority?

The revenue generated from Measure C is managed by the Fresno County Transportation Authority (FCTA). The FCTA is a governing body established to oversee the use of the funds.

The FCTA is responsible for ensuring that the tax revenue is spent according to the priorities and projects outlined in the Measure C Expenditure Plan. The authority is a mandatory and vital resource. It coordinates with local governments, transit agencies, and stakeholders to plan, finance, and deliver transportation projects throughout Fresno County.
